It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex & Sexual Health

Harris, R.H. It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex & Sexual Health. Ill. by Michael Emberley. Cambridge, MA. Candlewick Press.  A boldly told non-fiction informational book about sex, gender, reproduction and much more explained with graphic pictures with easy to read and understand text.  This book explains sexual desires, and changing bodies, and sexual intercourse.  It also examines and illustrates bodies of different shapes, sizes and colors.  Heterosexuality and homosexuality are also described in detail.  The entire biological makeup of males and females are pictured and explain to include sex organs and changes that occur with puberty.  This is an educational text that describes body changes, hormonal changes, and way to care for the body with those changes.  Pregnancy, births of babies, abortions, birth control,  and sexually transmitted diseases are all explained in a normal and non biased way.  Book was written because the authors cared that children sometimes do not receive accurate information growing up and changes that occur.  I was intrigued with the ease of details that were given by the author.  I was raised very conservative but also understand that children will discover incorrect information if not educated about their bodies and changes.  I was pleased that the book explains throughout that if you are having sex the female can become pregnant and that sexually transmitted diseases can occur with sexual contact. This book was extremely diverse and explained all aspects of the changing bodies of children to be aware that they are normal and everyone goes through changes.  Also read two additional books by the same author and illustrator called It's So Amazing!: A Book About Eggs, Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families and It's Not the Stork!: A Book About Girls, Boys, Babies, Bodies, Families and Friends.
